The Milwaukee Brewers appear to be shifting towards some version of a retool, which includes one of their homegrown talents. Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that Brandon Woodruff is returning to the team on a two-year deal. The starting pitcher had been rumored to a move away from Milwaukee, but after negotiating with other clubs, he has decided to remain with the Brewers.

Woodruff is set to miss most, if not all of the 2024 season after undergoing shoulder surgery in October of 2023. Durability had never been an issue for the 31-year-old prior to last year, but a significant shoulder injury limited him to just 11 starts. Woodruff was great when healthy, going 5-1 record with a 2.28 ERA in 67 innings. The Brewers rotation is set to look much different in 2024, with both Corbin Burnes and Adrian Houser being dealt it separate trades this off-season.

With Woodruff now off of the board, teams will turn their attention to Blake Snell and Jordan MontgomeryJulio Urías is also a free agent, although his future remains cloudy after being investigated for a domestic violence case. The first game of spring training is just three days away, so these players will hope to resolve their situations sooner versus later.
