Last night was the MVP announcement. Giancarlo Stanton and Jose Altuve won the MVP in their respective leagues. Altuve beat Judge 405 votes to 279 votes. Stanton edged out Joey Votto by a mere two points.

Votto was better than in terms of Stanton in BB%, K%, BA, OBP, wRC+, singles, doubles, WPA, stolen bases, and DRS.

As you can tell, I believe Joey Votto should have won the MVP. It is not particularly close for me. Votto obliterated Stanton’s OBP .454 to .376. Votto reached base 321 times compared to 260 times for Stanton. Votto could have gone 0-for-146 with no walks or hit by pitches and still have a better OBP than Stanton.
