The deadline to make a decision on the qualifying offer was 5:00 p.m. ET time on Thursday and all nine of the players that received one also declined it.

Eric Hosmer, Mike Moustakas, Lorenzo Cain, Jake Arrieta, Wade Davis, Lance Lynn, Alex Cobb, Greg Holland and Carlos Santana decided to decline the one-year, 17.4 million deal in favor of free agency.

If the New York Mets were to sign one of the players above they would forfeit their second round pick and have their international signing bonus pool reduced by $500,000.

The Mets have already shown interest in Santana and Cain this offseason.

Earlier this offseason I took a look at how the new CBA rules breakdown the qualifying offer and compensation.
