Mets fans, an all-new episode is here!

This week, Mike and I discuss Shohei Ohtani‘s record-setting contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers; we dive into the latest from the Yoshinobu Yamamoto sweepstakes and how the Mets could pivot if they lose out on the Japanese ace, how the offseason plan changes with the Ronny Mauricio injury, and much more!

How might the Mets pivot their offseason plans at third base after losing Mauricio to a torn ACL? For Mike, the Mets can’t just rely on Brett Baty taking the third base job outright, they need to add a veteran infielder to help push the young players and replace the depth Mauricio brought with him:

“We don’t know the extent of the recovery time just yet, but there’s obviously a good chance that he won’t play anytime in the majors next year. Last week, [David] Stearns spoke about how they were set at third base and weren’t getting anyone from outside of the organization because of Mauricio and Brett Baty, but now you just have Baty. There were plenty of question marks about how he looked last year, and considering the infield depth has also taken a huge hit without Mauricio, so I would imagine that this changes the Mets thought process for the rest of the winter. They CANNOT go from a position battle to giving Baty the job outright and hope that he figures it out.”
