Mets fans, an all-new episode of MMO Weekly is here!

This Week Mike and I discuss the Eduardo Escobar trade to the Los Angeles Angels and what it means for the rest of the Mets veterans, we look at the bullpen’s recent struggles, Buck Showalter continues to baffle us, and much more!

Is the trade of Escobar a sign to come for the rest of the short-term veterans as the season continues to spiral? For Mike, a trade at the end of June does not necessarily mean the end for the likes of Mark Canha, Starling Marte, and company a month from now:

“Mindsets change pretty quickly once you get into July, but I don’t think the Mets did that trade with the intention of ‘Well, this is the start of us trading veteran pieces.’ It was more that Escobar wasn’t getting many at bats and essentially had no role on this [Mets] team. Once Tommy Pham and Canha started hitting, that really limited what they could do with Escobar, on top of the fact that Brett Baty is going to play everyday and is the third baseman of the future. I think Billy Eppler did well on this trade, and it helps that they were able to eat all the remaining money of Escobar’s contract outside of the league minimum which helped the Mets get a better return.”
