With the Mets in the throes of one of their worst months in recent memory, Steve Cohen announced he will hold a press conference at Citi Field ahead of Wednesday’s game.

“You will get it from me straight,” the Mets’ owner said in a tweet.

The Mets are off to a dreadful 35-43 start through 78 games. Their pitching is some of the worst in the league—despite spending over $150 million on the staff alone, and many of the team’s best hitters are well underperforming their 2022 pace.

It wouldn’t make sense for an owner to announce a press conference more than 24 hours in advance to fire someone. (They’d then have a whole day to do and say what they want). Wednesday’s press conference will likely see Cohen taking some level of accountability for the team’s performance.

General manager Billy Eppler has not given a formal press conference since June 2—only the second one since the season started. He has instead provided quotes through press releases and hand-picked journalists.
