We’re just about halfway through the 2026 seasons, and to put it nicely… things haven’t looked so great for our Mets. So, what do we say, have we given up to this season? Or are we still in the “ya gotta believe” mindset? Here’s what we here at MMO think.

Lol yes. See you in 2028, I guess?

This season going off the rails isn’t just the Mets’ doing. Not only do the Mets keep finding new ways to reach rock bottom, the Phillies have been seemingly infallible since Don Mattingly took over, the Marlins are 16-5 in May and the Nationals have the highest-scoring offense in baseball. Unless the Mets fire off an incredible hot streak before the All-Star break and the teams ahead of them start to struggle, their season is toast. It hurts saying that, because they have talent throughout the roster, but they can’t get out of their own way

Yes, I have as far as thinking the Mets will make a run. The 12-game losing streak wrecked the season. But I will still tune in for Benge, Ewing, Lindor and Soto. I think those four plus McLean and Christian Scott are a good nucleus for next year.

I haven’t given up but I’m close. Maybe I’m crazy but there’s a sliver of hope for me. I’m sure they’ll find a way to crush my dreams soon but for now, there’s a chance! Saying that, I sound like Lloyd Christmas from Dumb and Dumber!

To put a percentage on it, I am about 90% out on the Mets. The consistency is not there, the starting pitching has fallen off a cliff, and the hitting has fallen short in the biggest spots. They seem like a ship without a course, and everything feels disjointed as a result.
However, the 10% is reserved for the wildness that can be baseball. I’ve seen crazier runs, and I’ve seen worse teams put together stretches to get back into it. Do I think it will happen? No. But sports are weird sometimes, and you never truly know until it is over.

I’ll just admit it – I am not the optimistic Mets fan, especially not this season. Wave the white flag – it’s over.

Put it in the books — unfortunately, even with a manager change, which feels moot at this point, the 2026 Mets are done. Of course, anything can happen, but I haven’t met many optimistic Mets fans.
