deGrom Jacob

Strap yourselves in as the New York Mets head to the Bronx for a three game series with the New York Yankees beginning tonight at 7:05 PM.

RHP Jacob deGrom (2-1, 0.93 ERA) will oppose the Yanks for the second time in his career and he’ll go up against RHP Michael Pineda (2-0, 5.00) as the Mets look to establish a new franchise record with a 12th straight win.

Elias Sports reports that for the first time since interleague play began in 1997, the Yankees and Mets will meet with both teams holding at least a share of first place.

DeGrom launched his 2014 NL Rookie of the Year campaign by taking a scoreless effort into the seventh inning in a 1-0 loss to Yankees in his major league debut last May 15 at Citi Field.

He enters tonight’s game with a career-best 18.1 scoreless innings streak. The only two runs deGrom has allowed this year came in the first inning of his first start against the Nationals when Ryan Zimmerman hit a two-run home run on April 8. His scoreless streak is the longest by a Mets pitcher since R.A. Dickey tossed a franchise record 32.2 scoreless innings in 2012.

These Mets! They did it again yesterday afternoon as they beat the Braves, took their streak to 11 games, going 10-0 on the homestand and 13-3 on the season.

The winning streak is now tied for the longest winning streak in franchise history and the 10-0 record on the homestand is the best record the Mets have ever had in a 10 game homestand.

Yesterday Bartolo was a better than his numbers suggest as he threw more pitches than needed thanks to a Murphy miscue. Murphy also had 4 RBI’s so Murphy giveth, Murphy taketh. The Mets commute to the Bronx tonight to open up 2015’s first Subway Series.

Jacob deGrom makes his 4th start of the season tonight. So far he is 2-1 with a 0.93 ERA over 3 games and 19.1 innings. Overall on the season he has had 3 walks, 19 hits and 2 ER while striking out 17 innings. Those two runs came from the first inning of his first game of the season.

Jacob made one start against the Yankees last year where he allowed 1 run on 4 hits over 7.0 innings while walking 2 and striking out 6. The Yankees have the following numbers against deGrom:

  • G Jones 1-9, 2B
  • Ellsbury 1-3, 2B
  • Gardner 0-2, BB
  • McCann 1-3
  • Teixeira 0-2

Michael Pineda gets the start for the Yankees as he looks to make his 4th start of the season. He’s 2-0 over three starts with a 5.00 ERA over 18.0 innings. In that stretch he allowed 22 hits and 10 runs while walking 2 and striking out 20.

Looking more specifically at his starts, his first one was average (2 runs over 6), second one was bad (5 runs and 6.1) and third was ok (3 runs over 5.2). He didn’t face the Mets last season. In 13 starts last season he was 5-5 with a 1.89 ERA over 76.1 innings. The only Mets who have faced him are Cuddyer (1-5) and Granderson (0-1).
