Notes
Jacob deGrom turns 30 today. DeGrom’s 1.51 ERA is the lowest in team history after 15 starts. Dwight Gooden had a 1.66 ERA in 1985 after 15 starts in 1985. He leads the majors in ERA (1.51), is tied for fifth in strikeouts (120) and third with a .535 OPS.
Devin Mesoraco also turns 30 today. Mesoraco has six home runs in the eighth inning or later this year, including his two-run shot last night. He is tied with Adam Duvall for the third-most such homers in the majors this year. Mike Trout and Eddie Rosario are tied for first with seven.
Brandon Nimmo has a career-high 12 home runs. He has 10 homers since May 23 tied for the most in the majors during that span with Nelson Cruz, Evan Gattis and Paul Goldschmidt. Nimmo’s previous professional career-high was 11 homers in 97 games (392 at-bats) with Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League in 2011. Last night was his second career multi-homer game (also: September 7, 2017 vs. Cincinnati). Nimmo has hit homers in consecutive games for the second time in his career (also: May 31-June 1 this year)…He has never homered in three straight games.
Prior to tonight’s game, outfielder Jay Bruce was placed on the 10-day disabled list. In a corresponding move, right-handed pitcher Tim Peterson was recalled from AAA Las Vegas.
Let’s Go Mets!
