For the second straight day, the Mets and Rockies have a game scheduled that is threatened by the weather. The snow overnight in the Denver area is giving way to snow showers, rain showers and possibly a thunderstorm this afternoon. The weather conditions are still going to be fairly miserable, but could be possibly playable.

  2. Starling Marte – RF

  7. Dominic Smith – 1B
  8. Luis Guillorme – 2B
  9. Patrick Mazeika – C

Rockies Lineup

  2. Charlie Blackmon – DH
  3. Kris Bryant – LF
  4. C.J. Cron -1B

Right now both teams are scheduled to play a split doubleheader and this might be the only time where a split doubleheader makes more sense than a single admission situation. The Rockies have the flexibility now of cancelling one of the games today if need be and trying again for two games tomorrow. The counterpoint is, the Rockies knew the weather this weekend and just could have rescheduled last night’s game on Sunday anyway, avoiding this scenario.

If the Mets are able to play this afternoon, Carlos Carrasco will take the mound. Over seven starts and 41 innings this year he has a 3.73 ERA, 3.00 FIP, 1.122 WHIP and a 104 ERA+. He struggled in his last start, allowing four runs over 4 1/3 innings from eight hits and a walk. It was only the second time this season that he allowed anything above two runs to score. Between coming over from Cleveland last year and missing when the Mets played the Rockies, very few players on the Rockies roster have seen him in a major league game:

  • José Iglesias 11-33, 6 2B, 3 BB, 8 K
  • Kris Bryant 2-9, HR, 4 K (Returning from Injured List this series)
  • C.J. Cron 4-7, 2 2B, HR, K
  • Randal Grichuk 2-7, 2 2B

The Mets bats will get a look at Germán Márquez today. Márquez is off to a rough start this year posting a 6.16 ERA, 4.76 FIP, 1.526 WHIP and a 74 ERA+ over seven games and 38 innings. That being said, he has started to knock down his ERA in his last start, tossing back to back games allowing only three earned runs in six innings of work. He was pretty good against the Mets last year, holding the Mets to only three runs over 13 innings across two starts. The Mets have the following career numbers against him:

  • Eduardo Escobar 12-23, 2 2B, 3B, HR, 6 K
  • Starling Marte 3-15, 3B, BB, 4 K
  • Travis Jankowski 3-10, 2 BB, 2 K
  • Mark Canha 1-10, 2 K
  • Francisco Lindor 1-7, 2B, 2 BB
  • Brandon Nimmo 3-8, BB, 2 K
  • Dominic Smith 0-3, BB< K
  • Pete Alonso 0-3, 3 K
  • Jeff McNeil 1-3, 2B

Let’s go Mets!
