Syndergaard

The Mets wrap up their series in DC this afternoon with a rubber match against the Nationals in an early 12:35 PM showdown.

The Mets will send rookie right-hander Noah Syndergaard (4-5, 3.05) to the hill and he’ll be opposed by Jordan Zimmermann (8-5, 3.27) for the Nationals.

Syndergaard has allowed one run or fewer in six of his first 12 major league games. Only Dwight Gooden (8) and Matt Harvey (7) allowed one run or fewer in more games through their first 12 games in franchise history.

Since July 5, the Mets pitching staff has allowed 30 earned runs in 113.0 innings (2.39 ERA) with 30 walks and 103 strikeouts. During that stretch, the staff is holding opponents to a .205 batting average. Overall, New York is third in the majors with a 3.25 team ERA.

Mets Starting Lineup

  1. Curtis Granderson – RF
  2. Ruben Tejada – SS
  3. Daniel Murphy – 3B
  4. Lucas Duda – 1B
  5. Wilmer Flores – 2B
  6. Kirk Nieuwenhuis – LF
  7. Kevin Plawecki – C
  8. Noah Syndergaard – RHP
  9. Juan Lagares – CF

Syndergaard is 4-5 over 12 games this season with 73.2 innings of work while posting an ERA of 3.05 and striking out 78 batters.

Thor was the hard luck loser in the first game after the All-Star break as he held the Cardinals to two runs on five  hits in 7.0 innings with six strikeouts. Overall in his last four starts he is 2-1 over 29.0 innings with 30 K’s and a 1.55 ERA. Not surprisingly, this will be Noah’s first start against the Nationals in his career.

The Mets’ offense will get a look at an old foe in Jordan Zimmermann who is 8-5 over 19 starts and 115.2 innings this year with a 3.27 ERA and 84 strikeouts. His first start back from the All-Star break was quite short where he allowed 2 ER over 4.0 innings against the Dodgers.

When you look through his numbers this year, he’s basically been lights out or average to slightly below average. Not much middle ground. His first start of the season was against the Mets and he held our guys to 1 ER over 6.0 innings. The Mets have the following numbers against Zimmermann:

  • Murphy 17-53, 5 2B, 3 HR
  • Duda 7-32, 2 2B
  • Lagares 6-23, 2 2B
  • Tejada 6-21
  • Granderson 3-16
  • Flores 4-13, 3B
  • Recker 2-8, 2B
  • Mayberry 3-6

Lets Go Mets!
