Late scratch for the Mets with Jacob deGrom leaving the team because of a family issue. Corey Oswalt will get the start instead.

The battle for the bottom of the NL East kicks off tonight as the Mets play the Marlins in Miami. The Mets are coming off a loss (shocking) where their starter was good, their hitting was good, but Familia fell apart at the end and the Mets inexplicably didn’t have another option ready to go to get in the game as the Mets allowed the Pirates to score 4 runs in the top of the 9th and win 5-3.

The Mets bats will see Sandy Alcantara‘s 2018 debut today. Last year in 8 games and no starts he allowed 6 runs, 4 earned, in 8.1 innings of work from 9 hits and 6 walks when he was a member of the Cardinals. He was traded to the Marlins on December 14th in the deal that sent Ozuna to St. Louis. In the minors this year, he has posted a 3.71 ERA over 85.0 innings and 14 starts including a 1.271 WHIP, 7.8 H/9, 6.8 K/9 and a 1.88 K/BB.

Game Notes

Corey Oswalt was added to the active roster on Friday with right-hander Gerson Bautista being optioned back to Triple-A Las Vegas. Oswalt is starting in place of Jacob deGrom Friday night.

DeGrom was scratched from the start to deal with a family issue but is expected to start on Saturday against the Marlins.

Let’s Go Mets!
