The New York Mets (42-41) will take their series win against the Dodgers up north as they begin a three game set against the Giants (42-41) in San Francisco.

Left-hander Jonathon Niese (3-8, 3.90) will get the start tonight and oppose right-hander Chris Heston (8-5, 3.78) in a 10:15 PM matchup.

Niese has tossed five straight quality starts, the fourth-longest such stretch of his career and his longest since he had six straight quality starts from June 1-28, 2014.

New York has won three of its last four road games and won its third road series of the year taking two of three from the Dodgers. Overall, the Mets are 13-27 away from Citi Field this year and 6-19 in their last 26 road contests. New York’s .325 winning percentage on the road is the second-worst in the majors.

Since May 1, Daniel Murphy is hitting .338 (48-153), the third-highest batting average in the National League and seventh in the majors over that span. (Minimum 140 PA)

The Mets actually scored 8 runs? The Mets actually took the series in LA? Believe it. It hapened! Yesterday the Mets hit up the Dodgers for 8 runs including a 4 hit day by Wilmer Flores and received an excellent start from Steve Matz as he pitched 6.0 innings striking out 8 batters. Jon Niese will look to keep the good times going in San Francisco tonight. The Mets bats will get a look Chris Heston who cemented his place in Mets history earlier in June by tossing a no-hitter at Citi-Field.

Niese is 3-8 over 15 starts this season and 90.0 innings with a 3.90 ERA. June was good to Niese although he was 0-3 over 5 starts. In that stretch he pitched 33.0 innings with a 3.00 ERA. One of those starts was against the Giants where he allowed 4 runs, only 2 earned over 7.0 innings. The Giants have the following numbers against Jon:

  • Posey 8-22, HR
  • Pagan 1-13, HR
  • Crawford 5-12, 3B, HR
  • Blanco 1-10

Chris Heston is 8-5 over 16 games and 97.2 innings with a 3.78 ERA this year. On June 9th he pitched a no hitter against the Mets, striking out 11  batters in the process. Since the no-hitter he has been 2-1 over 23.2 innings in 4 starts with a 3.80 ERA, so consistent with his season numbers. The Mets have the following numbers against Heston:

  • Granderson 0-4
  • Teajada 0-3
  • Campbell 0-3
  • Cuddyer 0-3
  • Duda 0-2
