kitk nieuwenhuis

The Mets will call up OF Kirk Nieuwenhuis from Triple-A Las Vegas according to Adam Rubin of ESPN New York.

Since being claimed off of waivers from the Angels last month, Nieuwenhuis has been raking at Triple-A Las Vegas, where he was batting .293/.354/.741 with seven home runs and 20 RBI in 15 games.

However, Nieuwenhuis has struggled mightily in the majors this season, batting just .100 with a .156 on-base percentage for both the Mets and Angels combined.

Kirk had just six hits in 64 plate appearances, a feat so bad it’s been bested by most of the Mets pitchers.

To make room for Nieuwenhuis on the active roster, the Mets optioned Darrell Ceciliani to Triple-A Las Vegas. He was mired in a 2-for-27 slump with 13 strikeouts.
