Congratulations to New York Mets righthander Jacob deGrom, who was selected to pitch for the National League in the All-Star game next Tuesday in Cincinnati.
DeGrom, the 2014 NL Rookie of the Year, is 8-6 with a 2.30 ERA and 0.961 WHIP this season.
Meanwhile closer Jeurys Familia didn’t get selected tonight, but we can help get him in as part of the Fan All-Star Vote on Mets.com and MLB.com.
Familia will go up against Troy Tulowitzki, Clayton Kershaw, Johnny Cueto, and Carlos Martinez.

With their outstanding first half performances, there’s a strong chance that both Jacob deGrom and Jeurys Familia earn All-Star game selections.
“Pick up the program and look at what they’ve done,” Mets manager Terry Collins said. “You’ve got Jacob, who’s put up a tremendous run, and Jeurys — if we had a lead a few more times, he’d be leading the league in saves. He’s been absolutely brilliant.” Anthony DiComo (MLB.Com).
DeGrom is 8-6 this season with a 2.30 ERA and 0.96 WHIP. He’s 6th in the National League in ERA, 5th in WHIP and 12th in strikeouts at 102.
“It would be an honor,” deGrom said of potentially going to his first Midsummer Classic. “I haven’t really, to be honest, thought about it too much. It would be really cool to make it. I haven’t thought too much about it but I would really like to be in it, especially being my second year would be really special.”
Trevor Rosenthal is the only National League reliever who has a lower ERA than Familia’s 1.16. His 22 saves are 4th in the league, and his excellent 0.91 WHIP ranks 8th.
“When the season started, I just wanted to have a great year,” Familia said. “I’m not really looking for the All-Star team. But I take it day to day, trying to do the best I can, and if it happens I’m going to enjoy it.”
It will be great to see both players rewarded for their efforts this season. They have done a great job keeping the team in contention all year, and they are truly deserving of the honor.
