Well, the winning streak had to end eventually.

The Brewers beat the Mets 5-1 last night due to the one weakness for the Mets this season: the long ball. After a quick first inning, Matt Harvey allowed a three-run shot in the second and the Mets could never recover. The rubber game is still to be had today on this rainy Sunday.

Notes

Every major league manager, coach and player will wear No. 42 today to commemorate the Anniversary of Hall-of-Famer Jackie Robinson breaking baseball’s color barrier in 1947. MLB retired Robinson’s number throughout the Majors in 1997 and every player and all on field personnel has worn his No. 42 during games scheduled on Jackie Robinson Day since 2009.

New York has won its first four series of the year for the second time in team history (also: 2006). This is the club’s first rubber game of the year. Last season, the Mets were 7-10 in rubber games.

Adrian Gonzalez has eight RBI in his last five games.

Noah Syndergaard has a 2.71 ERA (64 earned runs/212.1 innings) at Citi Field since 2015, the ninth-lowest ERA at home in the majors during that span (min. 200 innings).

The Mets are 11-3 in their last 14 games when Syndergaard starts following a team loss. In those 14 starts, Syndergaard is 7-3 with a 2.44 ERA (24 earned runs/88.2 innings) with 105 strikeouts.

Let’s Go Mets!
