Put it in the Books!
The Mets took the rubber game of the series with the Milwaukee Brewers Sunday in dramatic fashion and improved to 12-2 on the season.
Pitching:
Noah Syndergaard started for the Mets and was awesome after a so-so first inning.
Syndergaard struck out eight straight Brewers, a streak that began in the second inning with Orlando Arcia. “Thor” struck out the final two in the second and then struck out the side in the third and fourth innings.
Syndergaard’s streak was finally snapped in the fifth inning by Hernan Perez. Perez singled on a 1-2 breaking ball to left field but Syndergaard got out of it thanks to his 11th strikeout. The right-hander’s breaking pitches looked great. He was throwing them all for strikes and was also able to get swings and misses with them.
His final line was: 5.1 IP, 2 H, R (0 ER), BB, 11 K.
Syndergaard was pulled after giving up a single to Jesus Aguilar.
Robert Gsellman came in and walked Lorenzo Cain but got Travis Shaw to pop-up to Amed Rosario. Trouble ensued though, Domingo Santana reached on a infield hit that got by the usually sure-handed Todd Frazier.
On the next play, Amed Rosario dove to his left for a great stop but made a short throw to first that Wilmer Flores could not pick. Two runs scored on that play and the Brewers took a 2-1 lead at the time.
Gsellman got out of the inning though and got one-out the following inning after giving up a very weak hit to Jett Bandy. AJ Ramos came in to relieve Gsellman and he walked two of the three guys that he faced.
Jerry Blevins came in for Ramos and retired Travis Shaw with the bases loaded to escape the jam.
Hansel Robles came in the eighth inning and retired the side 1-2-3 with one strikeout.
Jeurys Familia pitched the ninth inning. He struck out the first two guys but then walked Jonathan Villar on four pitches. He fell behind Aguilar but got him to ground out to end the frame.
Offense:
Brandon Nimmo made his first start since returning from the minors. He led off the first inning with a single and scored on a RBI single from Todd Frazier. He also tripled in the fourth inning with two outs and he homered in the sixth inning to tie the game at two.
The Mets had their share of baserunners in this game. Michael Conforto, Nimmo, and Todd Frazier reached base a combined eight times but the Mets left 12 runners on base.
Jose Reyes continued to struggle with the bat as he left five runners on base. Reyes is now 0-for-16 this season and has only reached base one time.
For today’s game, none of that would prove to matter however, as Wilmer Flores launched a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth inning to give the Mets a dramatic 3-2 victory!

Jacob deGrom gets the ball tomorrow for the Mets against the Washington Nationals at. He and the Mets will face Gio Gonzalez. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m.
