RHP Edward Cabrera (0-0, 4.26) vs. RHP Trevor Williams (4-2, 4.54)
SNY • WCBS 880 AM • WQBU 92.7 FM

Well, that was a storybook afternoon! The Mets had a massive, 6-5 come-back win against the Marlins to start off the day. The Mets were down most of the afternoon, and entered the 9th inning down 5-1 after leaving runners on in the 8th inning.

Brandon Nimmo started things off with a two-run homer. Javier Bàez came up with the tying run on with two outs (you can’t make this up!), got a hit, and then scored the winning run on a Michael Conforto single! Hopefully that turns everything between a group of fans and him around.

Now the Mets have an opportunity for the doubleheader sweep!

Trevor Williams will make his second start for the Mets today and pitch in his fourth game. As a Met, Williams has pitched 8.2 innings allowing 1 run off 4 hits and 4 walks while striking out 5 (1.04 ERA, 3.74 FIP, 0.923 WHIP and a 396 ERA+). This is a dramatic improvement compared to his time with the Cubs where he pitched in 13 games, 12 starts, totaling 58.2 innings posting a 5.06 ERA, 4.53 FIP, 1.534 WHIP and an 83 ERA+. Only two players on the Marlins roster have seen Williams in a major league game:

Edward Cabrera will pitch in his second major league game this today. The rookie is coming off of his major league debut back on the 25th where he allowed 3 runs from 4 hits and 3 walks from 6.1 innings. This includes two homers. In the minors this year he made 13 starts and pitched 61.1 innings with a 2.93 ERA with a 1.141 WHIP. This will be Cabrera’s first start against the Mets.

Game Notes

Prior to tonight’s game, the Mets reinstated infielder Luis Guillorme from the injured list. In a corresponding roster move, infielder Brandon Drury has been optioned back to Triple-A Syracuse.

Additionally, RHP Yennsy Diaz has been recalled from Syracuse to serve as the team’s 27th man for the doubleheader.

Let’s Go Mets!
