After halting their six-game losing streak Tuesday night, the Mets are set to take on the Milwaukee Brewers in the second game of the three-game series Wednesday night at Citi Field.  First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 PM.

Jacob deGrom (0-2, 3.19) will look to earn his first major league victory and build on the momentum from Tuesday night’s win.  Opposing him on the mound for the Brewers is Wily Peralta (5-5, 3.03).

DeGrom hasn’t had the most luck in the games he has taken the ball.  He has pitched well with the exception of his last start in Chicago.  He is the first pitcher in team history to pitch at least five innings or more and allow five or fewer hits, in each of his first five major league games.  DeGrom will also look to provide the Mets with their 42nd quality start which could move them into a tie for second in the major leagues.

With his 1-for-3 and a walk last night, Ruben Tejada is in the leadoff spot for the second game in a row.  Also making his second appearance in a row is Taylor Teagarden.  Teagarden hit his first home run of the season, and his first for the Mets last night, taking an 0-2 pitch over the opposite field wall for a grand slam.

Daniel Murphy moved into a tie for first place in the National Leauge in hits with his 3rd inning home Tuesday night.  He now has 80 on the season and is tied with Arizona Diamondback Paul Goldschmidt.  Since the start of 2012, Murphy has 434 hits which second to only Andrew McCutchen who has 452.

Curtis Granderson continued his streak of reaching base safely in Tuesday’s contest.  He has now reached in 22 consecutive, second behind the Brewers Carlos Gomez who is at 25.

The Mets as a team lead the National League in walks with 241, and are third overall behind the Oakland A’s.

Starting Lineup

  1. Ruben Tejada – SS
  2. Daniel Murphy – 2B
  3. David Wright – 3B
  4. Curtis Granderson – LF
  5. Bobby Abreu – RF
  6. Lucas Duda – 1B

The Mets tried something new last night and won a ball game. It’s an odd feeling, but nice, and I hope the Mets try to make it happen again. Anyway, the Mets did it with power last night with Murphy hitting a two run jack and in his first game as a Met, Teagarden smashed a grand slam. Today Peralta will get the start for the Brew Crew as they face deGrom fromt he Mets.

Jacob deGrom is 0-2 this season over 5 starts and 31.0 innings with a 3.19 ERA. His last start against the Cubs was probably the worse of his career as he allowed 4 ER over 5.0 innings of work allowing 3 walks and striking out 3. Before that in his first four starts he struck out 25 batters and allowed 7 runs in 26.0 innings. He has not faced the Brewers or any one their roster in his career.

Wily Peralta is 5-5 over 12 games and a 3.03 ERA while logging 74.1 innings. In his last two starts he has allowed 10 ER over 10.2 innings, 5 BB and 9 K’s. Back in 2012 he had an amazing start against the Mets where he allowed only 2 hits and no earned runs. The Mets have the following numbers against Peralta:

  • Duda 0-3
  • Murphy 0-3
  • Tejada 0-3
  • Wright 0-3

Lets Go Mets!
