The New York Mets were defeated by the Boston Red Sox by a score of 6-3 on Sunday at Tradition Field.

Jon Niese started and pitched two solid innings before coming undone in the third when he allowed two runs on three hits and a walk.

Pitching was a problem all day for the Mets as Hansel Robles got tagged for three runs and Akeel Morris allowed the sixth Red Sox run. In all, Mets pitchers walked ten batters, a wild pitch, a balk, and a hit batter.

On offense Kirk Nieuwenhuis had another great game, going 3-for-4 with a double and two runs scored. He’s practically a lock for that 5th outfielder spot.

Juan Lagares dazzled in the field with two great catches, but also shined at the plate and was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Wilmer Flores accounted for the other RBI, going 1-for-3 and also coming through with a strong defensive showing that included some slick plays.

The Mets had 12 hits to Boston’s 5, but left 13 men on base. Ouch.

Shortstop Xander Bogaerts had four RBI for the Sox including a three run homer off Robles.

Travis d’Arnaud cut his left ring finger but didn’t need stitches. Should miss no more than a day. Terry Collins expects Daniel Murphy (hand) back in the lineup on Monday.

The Mets will host the Miami Marlins on Monday in a 1:05 PM match-up, righthander Zack Wheeler gets the start for the Mets.
