curtis granderson homers

The Mets (31-38) beat the Padres (29-40) by a score of 3-1 on Sunday afternoon at Citi Field.

Daisuke Matsuzaka got the start for the Mets, but left after 1 inning with an upset stomach. As a result, the bullpen had to be leaned on heavily today, and Carlos Torres (4 innings, 1 run), Vic Black (2 innings, 0 runs), and Jenrry Mejia (2 innings, 0 runs) all stepped up.

Curtis Granderson got the game started off with a bang for New York, hitting a leadoff home run to right in the bottom of the 1st inning against Ian Kennedy. Daniel Murphy then doubled, and scored on a double from Bobby Abreu.

The Padres got their lone run on an infield hit from Rene Rivera in the top of the 2nd. The Mets got the run right back in the bottom of the frame, thanks to a sacrifice fly from  Murphy that brought home Anthony Recker.

The win gives the Mets a series victory in their 3-game set with San Diego.

Up Next: The Mets will head to St. Louis for a series with the Cardinals starting Monday night at 8:10 PM. Jacob deGrom (0-3, 3.44 ERA) will pitch for the Mets, while the Cards have yet to announce their starting pitcher.
