The New York Mets (50-48) defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers (56-43) by a score of 15-2 tonight at Citi Field.
Pitching:
Well, Matt Harvey didn’t have to worry about pitching with a slim lead this evening, as the Mets tagged Dodgers starter Zach Lee for seven runs on eleven hits in only 4.2 innings in the rookie’s major league debut.
Harvey gave the Mets seven strong innings, allowing two runs on six hits with one walk and four strikeouts. The two runs allowed were a pair of solo shots, one from Mets killer Jimmy Rollins, and the other from rookie phenom Joc Pederson.
Jenrry Mejia and Jeurys Familia pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to finish off the game for the Mets.
Offense:
Michael Conforto showed everyone why he is such a highly touted prospect tonight, as the young outfielder went 4-for-4 with a walk and two doubles. Conforto’s four-hit total was the most by a Mets rookie in one of the first two games of a major league career.
Kirk Nieuwenhuis also went 4-for-4 and chipped in four RBI’s.
Lucas Duda went 2-for-6 tonight, but his two hits were reminiscent of 2014 Lucas Duda, as they were both home runs.
Kelly Johnson went 2-for-6 tonight in his Mets debut, and also contributed a home run, a no-doubter into the Pepsi Porch.
Daniel Murphy went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBI’s
Matt Harvey became the first pitcher to record an RBI in three straight games, as he went 2-for-4.
Thoughts:
All I can say is wow! What a game for the Amazin’s. Who predicted that they would come out and put up fifteen runs against one of the best teams in baseball? Yes, I know they were facing Zach Lee and not Zack Greinke, but everyone in the lineup contributed tonight, and it was certainly a breath of fresh air after a defeating loss of 7-2 just 24 hours ago.
On deck:
Jacob deGrom (10-6, 2.18 ERA) and the Mets will have to face to Zack Greinke (9-2, 1.30 ERA) tomorrow afternoon, looking to break the ace’s scoreless streak and come away with a series tie.
