Major League Baseball intends to propose another plan as it negotiates with the Major League Baseball Players Association to resume the 2020 season, according to Jeff Passan of ESPN.

This proposal will include a shorter season of around 50 regular season games and would also include the players receiving a full prorated share of their salaries. Under the proposal, MLB would aim to resume games in July.

Passan also noted that MLB will continue to discuss alternatives to the shorter season with the players. However, MLB believes that the agreement that it reached with the players in March gives it the right to order a shorter season and it plans to use that option if a deal is not reached with the MLBPA.

MLB’s latest proposal comes a day after the MLBPA delivered its proposal to the league. In the proposal, the MLB regular season would be 114 games long (from June 30 to October 31), the playoffs would be expanded for two years, the players would receive $100 million in deferred money if the postseason was canceled and the players would also have the right to opt out of playing the season if they did not want to play.
