Per their social media account, the New York Mets made their first public statements regarding the ongoing, nationwide protests on Monday.

“Queens, NY is one of the most diverse areas in our country. We take pride in our diversity. It is our strength,” the statement read. “That is why we denounce all forms of racism and discrimination. We stand with our state, our city, and [our] community. We hope to be part of positive change in our society.”

Sparked by the killing of George Floyd by former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin last Monday, protests have continued on a daily basis in major cities across the nation, often evolving into violent battles between police and protesters.

Mets stars Marcus Stroman and Pete Alonso have both been vocal regarding the situation, condemning the murder of Floyd and taking to their respective platforms to implore action and change.

The Mets’ statement came as New York’s governor, Andrew Cuomo, announced a citywide curfew beginning at 11 PM and ending at 5 AM, starting Monday night.
