Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the Philadelphia Phillies have signed Didi Gregorius. Sweeny Murti of WFAN adds that it is a one-year deal for the shortstop.

Gregorius, 29, is coming off an injury-plagued 2019 season in which he hit .238/.276/.441 with 16 home runs and 61 RBI to give himself a 84 wRC+ and 0.9 fWAR over 82 games for the New York Yankees.

However, he registered a 4.1 fWAR in 2017 and a 4.7 fWAR in 2018, which potentially makes him a smart risk to take on a one-year deal.

Defensively in his career, Gregorius has -11 DRS and a 12.4 UZR at the shortstop position where he’s had 7,173 innings of experience.

It is noteworthy that Gregorius will be joining the Phillies for Joe Girardi‘s first season managing the team. From 2015-2017, Gregorius played under Girardi before the latter was fired by the Yankees.
