Mark Feinsand of MLB.com reports that the Washington Nationals have acquired Hunter Strickland from the Seattle Mariners for Aaron Fletcher.
This is the second deal the Nationals have made with the Mariners for a reliever today as they acquired Roenis Elias within the last hour too. They have also made a trade with the Blue Jays to acquire Daniel Hudson. With these three arms, the Nationals are hoping to lengthen their bullpen now behind Sean Doolittle and Fernando Rodney.
Strickland, 30, has only made four appearances for the Mariners this season in which he has allowed three runs in 3 1/3 innings (8.10 ERA) while striking out three batters.
In his career, though, Strickland has been a solid reliever as he has a 2.98 ERA, 3.44 FIP, and 1.186 WHIP to go along with 8.4 K/9 and 3.1 BB/9.
