Mike Vasil made his third appearance (second start) for the Peoria Javelinas in the Arizona Fall League, shutting down the Mesa Solar Sox over four innings.

Vasil retired the first six batters he faced with three strikeouts and a couple fly outs before running into trouble in the third.

A single, fielder’s choice and single put men on first and second with one out, but the 22-year-old was able to induce a strikeout from lead off hitter Ronny Simon and get Zack Gelof to fly out to end the threat.

He ran into trouble again the in fourth, with a double and two walks loading the bases. A line out and fly out kept the shutout intact, though, before Vasil handed the ball to the bullpen.

It was an improvement from his last start, when he gave up three runs in 2 1/3 innings. Overall, Vasil has allowed five runs across 9 1/3 AFL innings. He posted a 3.53 ERA across the 2022 minor league season playing mostly for Low-A St. Lucie and High-A Brooklyn.

The Javelinas ended up facing former Mets prospect J.T. Ginn, who gave up two runs in three innings off four hits and a walk.
