michael Conforto

Baseball is a game of adjustments. A pitcher sees a hitter for the first time, and learns about his tendencies, hot-zones, cold-zones and overall abilities. They make the adjustment to play into his weaknesses. It is then the job of the hitter to adjust to the pitcher’s adjustments.

Michael Conforto, the Mets top hitting prospect who has yet to be matched during his minor league career, might finally need to make some adjustments. While he his still batting an impressive .323 at Double-A Binghamton thus far this year, he has been on a slight skid over the past week. Conforto has produced at a .161./.235/.226 clip over his last eight games.

Keep in mind this is the same Conforto who some were demanding be called up to the majors to replace the less-than-impressive Michael Cuddyer (maybe they still should). Anyway, it is important to note that almost all players will go through dry-spells. Baseball is a long season and the endurance factor of baseball is one weighed not only in physicality but also in stamina.

I have no doubt in my mind that Conforto will make adjustments to get back on track and will be in-line for a call-up to Triple-A Las Vegas before the end of the season. The 22-year old will be in Queens sometime next year.
