During Friday afternoon’s press conference at Citi Field, Sandy Alderson said he continues to look externally to find some help for the offense.
“I would characterize us as somewhat aggressive. I’m prepared to overpay but there has to be something to overpay for.”
It sounds like the team has only enough resources to add one player, so they want to be sure it’s someone that can help.
“Understand we are not going to add two or three or four different players.”
He wants to be confident in a move before making it, and is not interested in making a move just for the sake of making a move.
The bottom line is Alderson says it’s still too early and most teams have yet to decide if they are buying or selling. Which translates into going with what they got.
“At least for the time being, we need to get the job done with what we have.”
The Mets have been connected to Ben Zobrist, Aramis Ramirez and Jean Segura in recent weeks.
