michael Conforto

The Mets twitter account broke the news we have all been waiting for at 10:14 today. With the promotion of Jayce Boyd to Las Vegas yesterday it was only a matter of time before the Mets made the move to promote Michael Conforto to Binghamton.

Conforto was hitting .283/.350/.462 with 12 doubles, 7 homeruns, 28 RBI’s, and a 17/26 W/SO ratio. He was 4th in the Florida State League in HR’s, 4th in RBI’s, tied for 1st in doubles, 2nd in SLG, and 6th in OPS. Fans have been screaming for his promotion since he tore the cover off the ball in April with a slash line of .313/.396/.566 to the point that he was starting to get pitched around. When Conforto was drafted some scouts said he was a below average defender but he has improved immensely in that are making all the routine plays and some great ones too. He has also improved his throwing arm picking up 5 outfield assists on the year already.

Before the season Baseball America had Conforto listed as the 80th best prospect in all of baseball while MLB.com had him at #82 in baseball. I have a feeling when the mid-season lists come out he will have jumped into the Top 50.

Binghamton plays tonight in Altoona at 6:00 ET with no word yet if he will be in the lineup. He will make his home debut in Binghamton on June 2nd at 6:35 against Trenton.
