The New York Mets are only four games into the 2020 season and Michael Conforto is coming out of the gate running.

While the Mets finally had their first offensive breakthrough on Monday in their 7-4 victory against the Boston Red Sox, Conforto has been solid overall so far this season.

On Opening Day, the sixth-year outfielder did not have a game to write home about, although he did end up reaching base on a hit by pitch during a weak offensive day overall for the Mets in their 1-0 victory over the Atlanta Braves.

Conforto broke out in the second game of the season as he went 3-for-3 with a double, a walk and a run scored in the Mets’ 5-3 loss to the Braves.

On Sunday, the Mets struggled on both sides of the ball as they were crushed at the hands of the Braves by a score of 14-1. Conforto did not stand out, but did extend his on-base streak to three games with a hit in three at-bats.

After three games of weak offensive performances as a team, the Mets really needed a spark early on as they took the field in Boston to play the Red Sox on Monday. Conforto provided exactly that in the second inning as he smacked a two-run home run to right center field to give the Mets an early 2-0 lead. That kick-started an offense that scored five more runs over the next two innings off two more home runs.

Thus far in the young campaign Conforto is 5-for-12 (.417) with a double, a home run, two RBIs, a walk and two runs scored. He stands out offensively on the team partially due to the lack of offense around him. Through the first four games he is either in the lead or tied for the lead on the team in runs scored, hits, doubles, home runs and walks.
