The Houston Astros traded closer Brett Myers to the Chicago White Sox on Saturday according to Fox Sports’ Ken Rosenthal via Twitter.
Houston announced that they will receive right-hander Matt Heidenreich, left-hander Blair Walters, and a player to be named later for the pitcher. The Astros will also send cash to Chicago, according to the White Sox.
The 31-year-old Myers is 0-4 with a 3.52 ERA in 35 appearances this season. He has converted 19 of 21 save opportunities and has struck out 20 in 30 2/3 innings.
Myers is in the final year of his contract, but he has a vesting option that could guarantee his $10 million option next season if he appears in 40-50 games.
The Mets were reportedly “interested” in Brett Myers as well as expressing “interest” in Huston Street and Grant Balfour.
The Astros are very busy moving their players and have been working the phones and making deals with any GM expressing interest is any of players.
There’s also buzz that the Phillies are close to signing Cole Hamels to an extension, and that Zack Greinke was happy with the extension offer he received from the Brewers yesterday.
