Joel Sherman of the NY Post, reminds us that each season many players who were not available in the off season are there for the taking when a team gets off to a bad start. He mentions Roy Halladay as one potential player that could be moved prior to the trade deadline, but also adds the following short list that the Mets might find appealing.

So maybe the Mets outfield corners are not appealing now. Just wait. Detroit’s Magglio Ordonez ($21 million left before determining if his options vest) or Houston’s Carlos Lee (three years at $55.5 million left) could be available for meager prospects. Need rotation help? Well, how badly might San Diego have to unload Jake Peavy (four years at $63 million), or Houston Roy Oswalt (three years at $47 million), or Cincinnati Bronson Arroyo (two years at $22.5 million) or Aaron Harang (two years at $25.5 million)?

It seems like Roy Oswalt always comes up around the trade deadline, and yet he always manages to remain in Houston.

If things don’t work out in left field for the Mets, or if they find themselves needing a big offensive boost come June, it’s good to know guys like Ordonez and Carlos Lee could be had. Other players who might be available include Scott Rolen, Vernon Wells, Lyle Overbay, and Xavier Nady.
