Game Notes

The Mets suffered their seventh walk-off loss of the year last night and the third of this road trip. The seven walk-off losses are the second-most in the majors. New York had seven walk-off losses in all of 2012.

New York tied the game in the ninth inning last night only to lose the game in the bottom of the ninth. The Mets also had tied the game on Saturday at Philadelphia in the top of the ninth before losing in the bottom of the frame. According to the Elias Sports Bureau, the Mets became the first team since Washington in 2010 to suffer two such losses within seven days. The Mets never before had two such losses in the same calendar month, and they had two in the same season only in 1964, 1979, and 1987.

Shaun Marcum is 0-9 this season and is still looking for his first Mets. Only two pitchers in Mets history have endured more winless decisions to begin a season than Marcum. Anthony Young opened the 1993 season with an 0-13 record. Bob Miller began the inaugural 1962 season at 0-12.

David Wright went 1-3 last night to extend his hitting streak to seven games… Since June 5, Wright is hitting .403 (31-77) with 12 runs scored, eight doubles, five home runs and 11 RBI over a span of 17 games… His on-base percentage is .446 during that span. Wright is seventh in the National League with a .392 on-base percentage, ninth with a .531 slugging percentage, eighth with a .319 batting average on the road, tied for sixth with five triples and eighth with 14 stolen bases.

Andrew Brown hit a solo home run last night. Brown has three home runs this year in 22 at-bats. His home run rate per at-bat is 7.33, the second highest in the majors behind only Seattle’s Carlos Peguero, who has one home run in six at-bats this season.

Marlon Byrd is hitting .308 (20-64) with 10 runs scored, four doubles, five home runs and 11 RBI in 20 games this month. His five home runs are tied for the most he’s hit in a calendar month (Also, May, 2013).

Mets announced their rotation for this upcoming weekend against the Nationals. Matt Harvey will start on Friday, Dillon Gee will start Saturday and Zack Wheeler will start Sunday.

Game Preview

The Mets and White Sox finish their two games series tonight as the Mets try to bounce back from last night. The Mets showed some fight form last night but they just fell a bit flat. Today, Shaun Marcum gets the nod for the Amazin’s as John Danks gets the start for the South Siders.

Shaun Marcum is 0-9 on the season with a 5.76 ERA over 59.1 innings with 53 strikeouts. His last two starts have been dreadful, after a series of good starts. The Sox have the following numbers against Marcum:

Ramirez 2-6, 2B
