The New York Mets (38-33) dropped yet another game to the Atlanta Braves (25-47) on Thursday night in Turner Field. This one came in heartbreaking fashion as the Braves came back late against the Mets, taking the opener of the four-game set by a score of 4-3.

Pitching:

Matt Harvey started for the Mets and had a shaky but effective start. Harvey went six innings on the night while allowing two runs on eight hits. He struck out three batters while walking none and took the no-decision.

Jerry Blevins started the eighth for Mets and quickly gave up a single to Freddie Freeman. Addison Reed took over with one out in the eighth to take on Adonis Garcia, who got the best of the Mets’ setup man. Garcia hammered a two-run shot off Reed to give the Braves the lead for good.

Offense:

The Mets offense was able to muster three runs against Matt Wisler and the Braves Thursday night, but were shut down by Atlanta’s bullpen.

Neil Walker had a nice night at the plate for the Mets, going 2-for-2 with two RBI and a walk. Alejandro De Aza also found himself some success, going 2-for-2 with a double and a RBI that put the Mets on the board in the second inning.

Notes:

The Mets have now lost five of their last six games to Atlanta.

The team dropped a prime opportunity to pick up some ground against the idle Washington Nationals. A win tonight would have put them just three games back of first place Washington.

On Deck:

The New York Mets will look to get things right against the Braves yet again Friday night as LHP Steven Matz (7-3, 2.74 ERA) toes the rubber for the team. Matz will be opposed by Braves RHP Aaron Blair (0-4, 7.19 ERA).
