The New York Mets have traded outfielder Mark Canha to the Milwaukee Brewers, Will Sammon of The Athletic reported.

In return, the Brewers are sending the Mets 23-year-old minor league starting pitcher Justin Jarvis, Andy Martino of SNY reported.

Canha signed a two-year, $26.5 million deal with the Mets before the 2021 season, and holds a $11.5 million pclub option for 2024. Sammon reported the Mets will be paying down the rest of the money owed Canha in 2023, and the Brewers will be responsible for all the money owed on the option year or buyout ($2 million).

Through 89 games with the Mets in 2023, Canha hit .245/.343/.381 with 6 home runs, 29 RBI and a 102 OPS+ and 107 wRC+. He played mainly left field and right field but was also capable of filling in at first base and third base when needed.

On his Mets career, he slashed .259/.359/.395/.754 and put up 3.4 fWAR. He was also a great member of the clubhouse and presence for the Mets off the field.

Jarvis is the No. 30 ranked prospect in the Brewers system on MLB Pipeline, but was soon going to move up to the 16-20 range in the Brewers system, Sam Dykstra, who works for Pipeline, said. He is the No. 12 ranked prospect in the Brewers system on Baseball America.

He spent most of the 2023 season at Double-A, putting up a 3.33 ERA with 91 strikeouts over 14 starts and 75 2/3 innings. He recently got promoted to Triple-A, and has a 10.80 ERA and 11 strikeouts over three starts and 11 2/3 innings.

Jarvis is Rule 5 eligible this offseason, so the Mets will have to add him to the 40-man roster before the Rule 5 draft. Jarvis joins Blade Tidwell, Christian Scott, Cameron Crow, Tyler Stuart, Mike Vasil, and Dominic Hamel as upper-level prospects in the Mets’ system.
