According to Tim Healey of Newsday, the Mets will push Steven Matz’s start back to Saturday.

The lefty threw a bullpen session today at PETCO Park, but obviously the Mets want to be better safe than sorry, and don’t want to rush him if he’s not 100 percent.

New York Mets pitcher Steven Matz is suffering from back stiffness and will throw a bullpen session Sunday to assess the pain, according to James Wagner of the New York Times.

Matz, 26, can be skipped or moved back due to Monday’s off day if his condition doesn’t improve.

The southpaw has had a rough season thus far, going 1-2 with a 4.98 ERA in five games started.
