According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, the Mets have talked to the Red Sox about catchers Christian Vazquez, Sandy Leon, and Blake Swihart, but nothing is considered serious right now. They have also discussed signing Wilson Ramos and Martin Maldonado as fallback options to their top target, J.T. Realmuto.

The Red Sox have three starting-caliber catchers and have a willingness to move one or more as they prepare to shed salary in an effort to stay under the Luxury Tax Threshold.

Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic confirmed that Realmuto is still the Mets top target tonight, but the team is not willing to meet the Marlins current asking price for the catcher.

The catching market appears to be waiting on what happens with J.T. Realmuto, and until that situation resolves itself, we’ll see more of the same in the Mets looking at all options to improve behind the plate.
