John Harper of the Daily News posted an article filled with quotes from a still very dejected Wally Backman.

“I really thought I won them over,” Backman said by phone Friday from his home in Oregon. “I came out of each interview thinking it had gone better than the one with the Diamondbacks when I got the job there (in 2004).

“I knew what was being said (in the media), that the other guys were the favorites, but I kept looking at it, thinking I could make them see that I was the best guy for the job. I guess I didn’t convince them.”

Backman also revealed that he has in fact signed a contract to manage again in the Mets minors next season.

As a result, he said he has signed a contract to manage in the minors for the Mets next season, but has yet to be told where he’ll be assigned.

Well, that’s good news. I’m glad he’ll still be in the organization. Considering Ken Oberkfell is still managing in Buffalo, and Tim Teufel is in Binghamton, I’m guessing he’ll still end up managing Class-A St. Lucie.
