The Mets suffered a heartbreaking 9-8 loss to the Dodgers, though one positive take away was the offensive boost provided by a young top of the lineup.
Amed Rosario, Dominic Smith, and Pete Alonso were the Mets’ 1-2-3 hitters on Wednesday and they combined to go 7-fro-13 with three homers, six RBI and six runs scored.
Alonso, the oldest of the group at 24, slugged two-home runs while Rosario and Smith hit back-to-back shots in the seventh inning.
The 23-year-old Rosario currently has a .432 slugging percentage and his wRC+ is up to 98 on the season.
Smith, still just 23 years old, continued to take advantage of his limited opportunities with three hits. He’s now a 1.0 bWAR player this year and has a 1.025 OPS. The question for Dom and the Mets, is how often do you play him in left field right now to take advantage of his bat?
