ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball released its schedule for the first half of the season on Thursday, and the Mets are slated for four games. This is in addition to, as The Athletic‘s Tim Britton points out, the Mets being scheduled on ESPN for Opening Day.
The four games the Mets are tentatively scheduled to play on Sunday Night Baseball are:
May 2 @ Philadelphia
May 30 v. Atlanta
July 4 @ Yankees
September 12 v. Yankees
As a note, the season may not start on time, some these can always get scrubbed or switched around. The September game is one of the only SNB games released from after the All-Star break, so there can always be more added to the schedule, too.
Analyzing the schedule, the Mets travel to St. Louis and Arizona following the Phillies and Braves games, respectively, for series that start on Monday night, leaving room for potentially lethargic starts to both of those bouts. The Mets stay in New York following the two Sunday night games with the Yankees.
This is sort of a double-whammy for Mets fans, as that makes it four less games with Gary, Keith and Ron–the best booth in baseball. Also, Alex Rodriguez, who almost bought the Mets and wasn’t allowed to call games while the potential sale was ongoing in 2020, is sure to return to the booth during these games, which will add a wrinkle to the broadcasts.
ESPN has offered an alternative (and entertaining) Statcast broadcast to some Sunday night games over the last two seasons. It would be nice for the Mets fans to have that viewing option at times, as well. There’s also always, of course, the radio team of Howie Rose and Wayne Randazzo to listen to for the games if the lack of GKR turns you away.
