If I asked you guys to give me the Mets all-time pitching leaders in wins or strikeouts or ERA, I’m pretty confident all of could name most of the top 20 pitchers.

But here’s a category that could pose a nice challenge for you…

Hits Per 9 Innings (H/9)

H/9 is a very useful tool for evaluating pitchers, whose goal is to prevent runs, which are usually scored by hits.

Though it’s closely correlated with opponents’ batting average, hits per nine is based solely on the number of outs a pitcher records, rather than the number of at-bats by his opponents.

You will find some pretty interesting names in this Mets Top 20, which includes three relievers.

Put on your Mets (thinking) caps and let’s see how many pitchers you could name in a very generous four minutes!

Good Luck and LGM!
