The New York Mets announced Saturday afternoon that they’ve optioned right-handed pitcher Gerson Bautista to Double-A Binghamton and recalled right-handed pitcher Corey Oswalt from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Bautista, 22, was called up recently because the Mets need a fresh arm and he allowed two runs over 2.1 innings in his first two major league appearances.

The hard thrower is still raw and will benefit from time back in Binghamton where he had 11 strikeouts in five scoreless innings to begin the 2018 season.

Oswalt, 24, is up with the Mets for the second time this season though he has yet to make his major league debut. He was scratched from his most recent scheudled start for the 51s because he was sick and hasn’t pitched in a game since April 13.

Oswalt has allowed three runs on six hits, four walks and struck out 12 in nine innings spanning two starts for Las Vegas this season. He was the Mets Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2017.

The Mets need a fresh arm after going 12 innings in their win against the Atlanta Braves on Friday night.
