Right-hander Merandy Gonzalez threw a seven inning no-hitter for the GCL Mets this afternoon, in a 1-0 win over the GCL Marlins at Roger Dean Stadium in Jupiter, Florida.
Gonzalez, 19, was making just his second start of the season and has appeared three times in relief. In his first start, he tossed five perfect innings and struck out six.
The young righty was signed out of the Dominican Republic in 2013 and spent his first two pro seasons in the Dominican Summer League.
Since coming state-side and pitching for the GCL Mets, Gonzalez is 2-1 with a 2.05 ERA, 0.682 WHIP, and a 11.8 strikeout rate over 22.0 innings pitched.
