The New York Mets have announced right-handed pitching prospect Franklyn Kilome has undergone Tommy John surgery, and he will miss the entire 2019 season.

Kilome was the prospect the Mets received in exchange for Asdrubal Cabrera in a deal with the Phillies. The 23-year-old was ranked by Baseball Prospectus as a top 100 prospect to begin each of the last three seasons.

After joining the trade, Kilome made seven starts for Binghamton going 0-3 with a 4.03 ERA, 1.079 WHIP, and a 9.9 K/9. During the season, Kilome would set a career high in innings pitched with him pitching 42.1 innings more than he had in 2017.

Kilome was prepping to pitch in the Dominican Winter League when he felt something was off according to Matt Ehalt of North Jersey. MLB Pipeline has Kilome ranked as the No. 5 prospect in the Mets system and we had him ranked No. 9.
