According to Anthony DiComo of MLB.Com, the Mets are promoting former first-round pick Anthony Kay to Triple-A Syracuse. Kay, 24, has gone 7-3 with a 1.49 ERA in 12 starts for Binghamton on the season. Kay threw seven no-hit innings on May 20, and hasn’t allowed more than four earned runs in a start this season.

Walks have been an issue for Kay this season, as he’s walked at least one batter in every start he has made this year, but so few hits allowed allows for a WHIP 0.92 in over 66 innings. Kay strikes out more than a batter an inning.

The Mets also promoted reliever Ryley Gilliam to Syracuse with Kay, according to Andy Martino of SNY. Gillam, 22, was a fifth-round pick from Clemson last season and has flown through the Mets system quicker then anyone could have foreseen.

Between Binghamton and St. Lucie, Gillam is 3-0 with a 3.68 ERA and a WHIP of 1.09. Gillam, a right-handed pitcher, has been a strikeout machine for the Mets this season, striking out 44 batters in 29.1 innings.
