Tim Healey of Newsday reports that Robinson Cano, Brandon Nimmo, and Justin Wilson are all scheduled to play in a rehab game for Triple-A Syracuse Tuesday.

Nimmo, 26, was not playing particularly well prior to his going on the IL on May 22 with a neck injury. He had actually sustained the injury on April 14, and then claimed that his “neck locked up” on April 16 as detailed by Laura Albanese of Newsday. Before his injury he was slashing .200/.344/.323 with three home runs and 14 RBIs.

Cano, 36, has been on the IL for the second time in three weeks with the same injury, a left quadricep issue. He was rushed back by the Mets, leaving the game early after aggravating the injury. While that might not be his fault, as the Mets are notorious for rushing players back from injury only to have them get hurt again, what is his fault is how he’s played – poorly. After hitting .303/.374/.471 last season, Cano has hit .238/.284/.366 with three home runs and 14 RBIs this season.

Lastly, Justin Wilson has been on the IL with left elbow soreness. The 31-year-old lefty has a 4.82 ERA in 9.1 innings on the year, striking out nine and walking four.

It remains to be seen who would be on the chopping block with these players nearing a return. Wilson will surely displace a reliever, but that still leaves the Mets with a nine-man bullpen and four-man bench. It’s likely that one more pitcher will be sent down, but the hitters at risk include Adeiny Hechavarria, J.D. Davis, Juan Lagares, and Carlos Gomez.
