daisuke matsuzaka dice-k

The New York Mets announced that lefthander John Lannan has been outrighted and that righthander Daisuke Matsuzaka has been called-up from Triple-A Las Vegas.

Sandy Alderson told reporters that Dice K is coming to pitch out of the bullpen, but is also insurance in case any starter can’t make a start – an indirect reference to Bartolo Colon (sore back) and Jenrry Mejia (torn blister).

Matsuzaka has a 2.25 ERA and 1.083 WHIP over 12.0 innings for Las Vegas, allowing seven hits, walking six and striking out 12 batters.

Lannan, 29, appeared in five games for the Mets this season, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits and a pair of walks in four innings of work. Of those seven hits, three were home runs.

So ends the Lannan to the bullpen experiment…. He can report to AAA or elect free agency.
