The New York Mets out-hit the Orioles 16-6 in their 14-1 defeat of Baltimore on Wednesday night. Of those hits, the Mets’ outfielders accumulated for half of the sixteen hits, six of the Mets’ 14 runs, and 10 of the 14 RBIs on the night.

Right fielder Billy McKinney was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and five RBIs. He hit two home runs (a solo home run in the fifth and a two-run home run in the eighth). He now has a 1.041 OPS in 12 games since the Mets acquired him.

Left fielder Kevin Pillar was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and four RBIs. Pillar also hit two home runs Wednesday night (a two-run home run in the third and a solo home run in the eighth). He’s hitting .262/.301/.421 with four home runs on the season.

Center fielder Mason Williams was 2-for-4 with one run scored and one RBI, a solo home run in the eighth inning. Williams has a 102 OPS+ in nine games with the Mets this season.

Together, the unlikely power trio of McKinney, Pillar, and Williams combined for five home runs and knocked in 10 of the Mets 14 runs in the blowout win over the Orioles.

Despite the Mets suffering injuries to every important part of the team, they’re still in first place with a three and half game lead. The story of the season has been unsung players like McKinney, Williams, and Pillar stepping up when needed.
