Albert Almora Jr. and Luis Guillorme continued their rehab assignments on Wednesday. Almora played five innings in center field and batted three times while Guillorme played all nine innings at second base and batted four times. Almora hit a long home run to left for his only hit of the day and Guillorme was hitless.

Thomas Szapucki had one of his worst outings of the season. He gave up two home runs and saw his ERA go from 2.05 all the way up to 3.51 after he gave up five earned runs in 3.2 innings.

Right-handers Yennsy Diaz and Sean Reid-Foley (both acquired from the Blue Jays in the Steven Matz trade) were effective, combining for two scoreless innings and three strikeouts.

Utility man Sebastian Elizalde tossed a scoreless ninth inning for Syracuse.

Binghamton Rumble Ponies (10-21) 9, Bowie Baysox (22-8) 1

Box Score

Carlos Cortes stayed hot with two more hits on Wednesday. Both of his hits went to left field, one a groundball and the other a line drive. Cortes has been an extreme flyball hitter this year. His groundball rate currently sits at just 23.7%.

Mark Vientos had himself a nice game. The big 21-year-old got on base twice with a walk and his seventh double of the season. His double brought a run home and came on a fly ball to right field.

26-year-old Josh Walker pitched seven strong innings. It was his third game since being promoted to Binghamton and his K% and BB% currently sit at 30.0% and 2.9%, respectively.

G1: Hudson Valley Renegades (16-13) 3, Brooklyn Cyclones (9-19) 2

Box Score

Brooklyn didn’t do much on offense in Game 1 of their doubleheader but Francisco Alvarez got on base twice in his his three plate appearances. His single was a sharp grounder to center field.

Justin Lasko was pretty effective on the mound, though he did give up two home runs.

Brian Metoyer continued to rack up strikeouts. He has now struck out 30.2% of the batters he has faced this year.

G2: Brooklyn Cyclones (10-19) 5, Hudson Valley Renegades (16-14) 3

Box Score

Game 2 was more eventful for Brooklyn. Brett Baty had another monster game, hitting his fifth homer and eighth double of the season. According to wRC+, Baty’s offense has been a ridiculous 98% better than league average so far.

Gerson Molina had a really productive game, also hitting a home run and a double. It was his first homer of the year and his second double.

Bryce Montes de Oca had another scoreless outing, getting a six-out save and lowering his ERA to 1.35.

St. Lucie Mets (19-13) 5, Palm Beach Cardinals (8-24) 3

Box Score

Jose Peroza and Joe Suozzi carried St. Lucie’s offense on Wednesday.

Peroza was on base four times. The soon to be 21-year-old hit his third homer and sixth double of the season.

Shervyen Newton also doubled, his sixth of the year.
